About Us

About Us

BÜSİBER (Boğaziçi University Management Information Systems Cybersecurity Center) was established within the Information Systems Research Center on December 1, 2016, with Prof. Dr. Bilgin Metin serving as Principal Investigator, to conduct academic research on cybersecurity from technical, social science, and business perspectives. In addition to our research, the center aims to raise awareness of cybersecurity and personal data protection from an academic viewpoint and to help bridge the gap in qualified human resources needed in the country. We organize cyber camps for university students as part of our social responsibility efforts, and we offer cybersecurity services and consultancy to public and private sector organizations, both to strengthen national cybersecurity resilience and to support applied cybersecurity research that provides academic answers to real-world sectoral problems. International cybersecurity certifications prove our expertise. We have provided free cybersecurity training to over 1,000 young people through 13 events, including our summer and winter camps.

Our Objectives

BÜSİBER, the Management Information Systems Cybersecurity Center at Boğaziçi University, was established on December 1, 2016, as a project supported by the Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA), with Prof. Dr. Bilgin Metin serving as Principal Investigator.

Our primary objectives are to advance academic research in applied cybersecurity, cultivate a highly qualified cybersecurity workforce, contribute to the cybersecurity capacity of public institutions, and emphasize the importance of indigenous cybersecurity solutions.

To achieve these goals, we conduct and publish peer-reviewed research on cybersecurity governance, risk management, and human factors in information security; organize free cybersecurity camps for university students; provide training programs for public institutions; and host summits that bring together domestic cybersecurity solution providers, academia, non-governmental organizations, and public institutions. Since 2017, we have also offered professional consulting and training services to public and private sector organizations, both to ensure the sustainability of our activities and to support applied cybersecurity research that provides academic answers to real-world sectoral problems.

International Studies: Our EU Projects

We have taken our national studies abroad through European Union–funded projects, including the following:

We are a partner institution in the EU Horizon project "WEM-CYBER: Widening Excellence and Mentoring in Cybersecurity" (Grant No. 101216854), with Prof. Dr. Bilgin Metin serving as Principal Investigator representing Boğaziçi University, building cybersecurity research capacity across European partner institutions through staff secondments and training programmes. Our earlier EU Erasmus+ project, "RECYPHER: Rethinking Cybersecurity in Pakistan: Human Factors' Essential Role," was accepted among the European Union Erasmus+ projects. It was selected from over 1,000 projects and started in 2020. In addition to Boğaziçi University, our partners include Saarland University from Germany, the Pakistan National Cyber Security Center, and affiliated universities. (https://recypher.eu/)
